Late afternoon today June 1st, while observing the destroyed nesting area, a miracle.
An egg must have hatched today because there it was a Least Tern chick. I gave it the name "Miracle".

By this my urgent request: Could you please postpone the activities around the nesting area between the canal and the Salina so "Miracle" has a chance? It will take a little over 3 weeks before he or she can fly.
Today June 3rd we witness the murder of 'Miracle', they have flattened the nest with a bulldozer!

Important facts: -
- This bird species is protected by Antillean Law
- Protected under SPAW protocol
- Code red on AUDUBON watch list (endangerd/threathened)
- 67,550 individuals worldwide
- Disturbing or destroying a nesting area is a criminal offense

Regards, concerned resident of Bonaire

  • Sean, I know this area well as we have stayed at Eden beach (pretty much next door to here for those of you that have never been on Bonaire) many times. It is such a shame that there are people on this earth who value the money in their pocket more than the earth itself. Don't give up your fight in protecting the Bonairian environment and who knows, maybe I will be joining you soon.

  • thanks Sean, another irresponsible construction site - towards the Bonairians and the wildlife, sad. Guess money talks...... hypocrite is too nice of a word.
