This tank was set up in late Sept. of 2008.
The tanks tarted with 3 male dwarf gouramis, 10 neon tetras, 2 chinese algae eaters, and 4 false julii cory cats. The gouramis killed all of the neons and the cory cats, and the surviving gourami killed the other two. The tiger barbs have been the most successful fish as of yet. I know the bio load seems like a lot, but the plants and shrimp really do their part in absorbing and recycling waste. I do a quarter water change every week and dose 2 or 3 times a week. The foods (yes I know there are a lot) are rotated out until I've cycled through the list in the order listed (except for the Algae Wafers and Shrimp pellets which are fed as needed). It has really helped to improve the colors of the fish. This is the first time I've ever had Barbs, and I can say now, that out of all fish, they're my favorite freshwater ones. Thanks for looking at my tank. Comment if you like. Enjoy.

  • IS MORE CONDITION GOOD FOR FISH

  • What's that now?

  • oh yeah and what happened to the other Kuhli Loach????? didnt you have 2 at one point?

  • at one point i did. haha. then one day i noticed my water column was still, so i checked the pump and voila! i was able to pull a half mangled kuhli loach out of it. too bad for th loach, lucky i found him in there though. would've killed everything

  • those ghost shrimp have survived all this time? All "10"? Wow, thats interesting please reply

  • believe it or not they survived until i took the tank down. i moved them to a tank by themselves but after that they didn't do so well. i've never had such efficient tank cleaners as those shrimp.

  • ph levels?? you use so many conditioner? do one take over the other or they all mix well?

  • BY the Way. Super Nice tank!! What kind of bulbs do you use to make them grow? My never grow!! Except for like one. And I noticed your Tiger barbs have a very nice bright orange color on its nose and fins. How did you make them have so much color?? ONly like one of mine has a bright Orange nose. Yeah, Tiger barbs are great fish, very hardy. Except that they love to nip at others!! Any tips on how to maintain healthy barbs, and beutiful planet tank like urs? Let me know!

    Thanks!

  • And the 55 gallon tank now holds 1 Blue gourami, 1 Opaline gourami, 7 Tiger barbs (4 original, 3 Albino Tiger barbs), 5 Gold barbs, and 4 Albino COry cats!

One of these days ill record it!! SO u can check it out.

  • lol!! The gourami part sounds very familiar!! I had a 20 gallon tank with 1 Blue gourami, 2 dwarfs, 1 redtail shark. And the Blue gourami killed all of them!! Then I got 5 Tiger barbs. Lived peacefully, then got another barb, wich got nipped to death by the others. Then one day, my 20 gall broke, so I put them in a 10 gallon. The gourami went crazy, and he ate the Barbs!! I was about to give it away. But then I got a 55 gallon tank!

  • your telling me you use all those conditioner mix?? any way this is the best info i have on tanks yet.. so professional looking

  • Does the prime water conditioner helps to remove everything out of the tap water if I set up a new fish tank? and it will help kill algae in a reef tank too?

  • where did u find the co2 bio system?

  • i have those tetra crisps and i think that their just great!
