As you can see by the power meter on the bottom scale that I peak approx 500 milliwatts (1 watt on the whistle). Conditions played a big part yesterday afternoon and not a big linear

  • Hi Ian, well I thought I was using power setting three wich equates to 2.5 watts (approx) but actually using setting two (need glasses lol) but i'm sure you already know the power settings on these great radios.

  • QRP is fun isnt it? I run a FT-817 and various antennas. I wish you showed the Create dipole and at it's height. Maybe next time! Check out my vids and see what I'm using. 73!

  • Hi, the flashing PO sign indicates that you have overidden the battery sub 11 volts default setting of 2.5 watts, if you are on a PSU @ 13.8 there will be no indicator if your sub 11 volts the radio defaults to 2.5 non flashing indicator if the indicator is flashing its outing 5 watts but knows that you are sub 11 volts, OK my worry is that you are only peaking 20% of your pwr in such a short distance ie TX - ATU - Metre - before you have the normal losses from the coax and the antenna....

  • it would be interesting to know actually how much your putting out at the antenna, I would change your element to a heil 4 or 5 and see the difference or at least remove the internal gauze in front of your mic then up your ssb mic gain to 65 and use some 213 or RG/8 coax between the radio meters etc. Best of luck

  • CONTINUED PS i experiment alot with low power and worked ZL & VK whilst in Canada on 20 watts & homebrew invereted L, Newyork on 2.5 watts 1 metre mag loop 3ft of the ground etc but these radios where all fitted with Heil 4 mic elements, they really work , SGC2020 and the FT817.
