Torch..., thanks for looking and commenting. YES! I agree , the essence of ham radio should be simplicity ( I'm a hypocrite cuz my station is no longer simple). I give more credit to the guy with the 20 year old radio , 100 watts and a wire antenna , than the "superstations" with a gazillion watts and the $10,000 Icom 7800.

Take care and best 73's to you TORCH

  • And a G5RV in some trees in what the hobby is all about! Great Job!

  • Fantastic transceiver, well done on the contact.

  • Hi Gopher,

Wish I could say a fancy antenna but all I have ( and was using at the time ) is a G5RV antenna about 25 feet off the ground in some trees. That's it.., nothing else.

  • what are you using for antenna?

  • Except for the known bug at 70CM (where transmitting at that freq will cause the tuner to start to tune ) it works VERY well and remembers where it tuned. Takes a few weeks to build up enough memory of ALL the places you go to , but once it memorizes it you will get tuned in a matter of seconds. For the known bug I mentioned earlier simply turn off the tuner when transmitting on 440MHz .

  • how does that tuner work for you??
