I made no adjustments to this TV yet, other than the blue bias at first. The vertical linearity was a bit off, but should be easily corrected with an adjustment (which is actually right in the front of the TV.)

Also, this TV seems to be very sensitive to unstable time-base sources, such as a VHS tape. I need to get a time base corrector or the like.

That aside, sorry the picture was washed out. This TV has a lot of contrast, and is very bright. I forgot to turn down the contrast for the camera.

It gets very warm, beautiful pictures. This is definitely an early rectangular color set, since rectangular color tubes weren't mainstream until 1965.

The sound quality is phenomenal on this TV. It doesn't show its true potential here as I was playing back an EP VHS tape with linear audio.

And Top Cat needs some spats dammit!

  • HEY! Wutz under the LID ON TOP? waited thru the whole vid & was hoping to see, but never did...could u do a vid of the innards? If it's a stereo unit, where is the right speaker? does it use the one in the TV escutcheon or is it on the end SIDE? You'd probably correct the vertical problem by re-capping (replacing ALL the capacitors). I restore these 4 a living if u ever need tubes or parts or work done, let me know! Thanks~!

  • @seatboi I plan on doing recap when once I get to it, and do a full restoration on the unit. I have about 50 televsions that need restoration work hehe.

  • I was watching this vid again because it popped up in the recommended section... Started to get absorbed in Talespin right before you shut it off :-)

I was wondering, did we ever discuss who the OEM of the Channel Master CRT could have been? I don't think they made their own tubes.

  • @Maxxarcade No, I don't think we've discussed that.

  • i miss the one i use to have mom fixed for me it was bigger than this one cause it had a lp player and stereo in it also i was two years old and iremember the first movie on bambi it was ghosty n staticy i didntm mind that any i jsut loved that tv.

  • This TV is also a stereo with a record player and am/fm tuner. 2 8" woofers and 2 oval speakers.

  • Travel in my mind with this video...

  • nice picture

  • @spatsbear2 i have 4 TV sets and they all work, one has a color problem, I LOVE COLLECTING TVs

  • i have a 1978 zenith 25 inch console sitting in my back room, it's going to be repaired soon and will be going in the living room of my future house, i like old, vintage stuff, including kitchen appliances(refrigerator, dishwasher, range, etc) and thats what im going to have in my own house, fuck new shit!!!!!!!

  • Good day,

Wow you have quite a collection!

Reminds me of what I had some 20 yrs ago. I wish I had space, as I had opportunity to get the top model in that line. It had a very fancy cabinet on casters. Remote controlled & good CRT. Bummer no room for it. Twin speakers.

I like the RCA you showed in your costume. I believe it was 1953/4..I had the same model (for Canada). It was plain cabinet but otherwise same, & worked. Yes 17CP4 also.

    I have a few TV's you'd like! Like a 1953 CTC ?8? Colour.

  • I HEAR ya! I got about that many, too! Just don't have the money for caps or time to re-cap em' all, so I just re-cap 1 when I have a little extra money & time. Lost my TV shop a year ago & after losing it unexpectedly had a heartattack & nervous breakdown, so spent the last yr in recovery, slowly gettin back into it...let me know if u need any work done...I'm poor, so could really use the money

  • WHAT a GORGEOUS SET!! I restore these for a living & you, Sir have one FINE example of an EARLY color TV! Congratulations! ;) PS if u ever need any knobs, tubes or parts, let me know...I have tons!

  • That's pretty groovy! I grew up watching a 1979 Zenith Chromacolor set which was similar but did not have the stereo at one end. I remember those cartoons though and haven't seen them in years. Cool.

I just uploaded two videos today of my 1967 Zenith Console stereo - there's no TV in it but it does look similar in styling to your set.

    Happy Times!~
