I didn't mean you were discouraging, Ray!:)

I have been making jams this way for years, and no problems! The only difference is I use boiling water to sterilize the jars and keep the lids in a pot of barely simmering water. I also wipe the rims with a damp cloth to catch any spills. I guess I don't like it when people get uptight about proper "methods" because it may discourage someone from trying what is a very enjoyable and frugal process!:)

Can you outwit an apple though ;) Try my trick!

I think if you cook them longer you will get more pactin out of them and it will set better.

Please sterilze your jars and lids.. in the sink just don't get it!! Great video,, my husband just brought me home a bucket full and a store bag full, so guess you know what I am doing today! I wish you well!

So I made this crabapple jelly, but - apparently my crab apples were too ripe. It didn't gel right, BUT -! it made G-R-E-A-T (thick) yummy syrup for waffles!!! thanks for your taking the time to post this stuff for us. :D
Can I use splenda instead of regular sugar? I'm "TRYING" to cut down on my sugar intake.

@risquecat That's a darn good question................and unfortunately I don't have a darn good answer. I limit my sugar too but haven't figured how to do it yet with jams. I do know that there is pectin that works for sugar free jams.

do you just use the water that was cooked with the apples? or was it blended? thanks! :)

@AhBbJeh I use the same water the apples are cooked in along with the few spices. It's really easy.

So does that mean you're not Southern Crockpot/Chef Gavin at ifood.tv and they've taken your videos an attached them to someone else? (That's creepy...)

@clvrh I am telling you I have no idea what you are talking about. The website you mention STOLE my videos from Youtube. The only place I upload videos is Youtube. If you see them anywhere else on the internet, then they are stolen. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to stop them. That's just how things go I guess. Some of us take the time and effort to make videos. Others steal them to make a buck.
