Mendiani (there are several versions with other spellings like Manjiani or Mandjani) is a Malenke rhythm of rejoicing and welcome. This is a very acrobatic dance performed by girls between seven and fourteen in special costumes.

For more rhythms and songs on the Akonting from West Africa and slave plantations, and for information on scheduling a performance at your school, church, festival, etc. contact Steve Levitt at www.duelingshoes.com
