Argentine Ants

Argentine ants eating sugar water on my floor. Argentine ants are the common little black ants that invade people's houses. They are an invasive species where I live (California), but they are interesting.

Dug them out? No, they were just running around on my floor. They are the 'pest' ants that invade peoples' houses.

I live in California in a development with a plague of these ants. We have had repeated invasions into the house and they seem to be burrowing under the foundation along the plumbing and coming up inside the walls to all points where the plumbing might lead. They are terrifying in their persistence and overwhelming numbers. Impossible to stop. Very scary. All we can do is use bait and poison and then wait for the next inevitable invasion.
