World Conker Championships

You don't have to be conkers but it helps... Conker players gathered in the tiny village of Ashton to compete in the 33rd annual all-comers contest. A conker is the hard shelled fruit of the horse chestnut tree, a large brown shiny nut, which is threaded onto a string and then swung to hit an opponent's conker. The last conker left on the string is the winner.Conkers is traditionally a game played by school children in the United Kingdom but has long since been adopted by adults - and has now turned into a world championship. Called a " chestnut fight " in Canada from 1964 till at least 1970. Threw some sticks at a Conker tree in the UK last week to get some out of the tree fro the chillunz. That's when I found out that they called them Conkers....
