I've just been Conkering with my son! I was thinking to myself 'as if you would be allowed to take a screw driver into schools nowadays with all the knife crime.' How times change eh!? All we needed was Conkers and Marbles to have a good time! Haha!
Yes it can hurt. Why do people do it? Because it's a British school tradition that should never end. Conker season was always a huge deal when I was at school. Hours of fun with your mates and enemies. I can't imagine modern British kids not playing it and experiencing proper Brit school customs and traditions.
