  • There is no parole in the federal system for offenses committed after 01 November 1987; and since that date good time allowances were cut from 120 days per year to 47 days per year. Consequently, the prison population exploded from 34,000 to 211,500 (mostly non violent, first time offenders, many for marijuana offenses).

  • Yea. Drug sentences for women have especially gone through the roof recently, and they pose no threat to society. They need a second chance.

  • Federal prisons are unbelievably overcrowded with mostly nonviolent offenders. Why can a child molester or rapist get parole but drug offenders cannot? millions of dollars every year is being wasted but housing federal inmates that SHOULD be up for parole. Something needs to be done! STOP wasting our money and give the nonviolent offenders a chance!

  • ..and I think there needs to be more funding directly TO halfway houses and shelters where parolees need time to get their feet planted before moving back into society

  • actualy interesting about the 300 million funding, cause in 2002 the corrections budget was $60 billion and now its closer to $50 billion. Maybe thats thats sliver lining..

  • Thanks for this. Bring back federal parole for non-violent offenders. Everyone benefits.
