One of my early runs. about a 10 pound charge. I have a catch crucible in a bed of charcoal, fed with 2 tuyeres.

As it burned down, it breached the side and into the hot coals below.
I have since integrated the system and the "star chamber" is the result. Not as spectacular as an open system, but a lot more control and heat efficiency. You can see a sketch of it here. http://www.knifemakerforums.com/showthread.php?t=66&page=2

  • now all u need is a building to crash it into...lol jk how hot did that bad chicken get?

  • The iron is from 4000, to 6000 deg F. I'm guessing 5500, as it melted through 5000 degree rated furnace cement.

    The actual reaction flame, is from 7400, to 8000 F. Just a couple K short of the surface temp of the sun.
