  • I know this song is by Johny Moore. I am 70 and was 16 in 1955 and my girl friend was 15. We were at the Drive In Show and use to turn off the movie sound, play the radio and neck or "make out" as we called it. Ths song came on On KFWB and I used to sing it to her over the phone. She was of course as adorable as the song. I bought the 45 of couse and it was "our song". We used to take it to parties and dance to it over and over. Do Wop will live in

  • this story is so cute you wrote. did you end up marrying?

  • @FromA2mee No.... her mom broke us up in 1956 and sent her to some girl's bording school in Indiana. I never heard from her again. As Paul Anka says.. I gues it was just "puppy love" :) . I play all the old doo wop songs a lot but my true love is blues.. I play a C harp and Jimmy Reed is my favorte. ........I have all kinds of stories... saw a lot and did a lot in the years I have had so far.. never missed out on anything.

  • aww, that's ashame. you should look her up on facebook and reconnect.. even if it's just as friends. if i was her mother i would have been happy for you both.you seem like you were such a gentlemen:D my fiance', who i admit is a looooot older than i am, was a drummer. he played with sister sledge, The Candy man (i forget his real name at the moment), the famous broadway play GodSpell, Astrud Gilberto, and and lots more. he is fantastic. he knows all about music.sounds like you have great stories

  • Johnny Moore was the lead on this song. Clyde had left the group when this song was recorded.

  • @theoldmole You are correct again. Also there were many changes in The Drifters lineup over the years so it is easy for people to get confused. This was the first recording after Clyde went in the service. It is Johnny Moore on lead, but he does sound somewhat like clyde. Thahks for posting.

  • @robshannon People forget that there was a period of time when 78 and 45 RPM formats both existed, and records were released on both.

  • @theoldmole You are correct, I also have it. Same label.

  • Bill Pinkney was the lead singer on this song. Sorry. I am looking at Joel Whitburns "TOP 40 R & B HITS " as I am typing. He does sound a lot like Clyde McPhatter and Johnny Moore tho.

  • good song here.recently got their 1971 lp ''the greatest recordings-the early years'' from a record store used section for $3.v-good shape.and this is on there.like it :)

  • it just doesn't make it as the record i remember. for one thing, i don't hear the bee-yoop" in this version. neither so in the colts version. i'll listen again...

  • This was their first song after Clyde McPhatter left to enter the service and never come back after his discharge. They brought in Johnny Moore to sing lead with the original Drifters. After Johnny left around 1958, he went to the service and then returned in 1963 with their hit "Under the Boardwalk" which came out a year later in 1964.

  • Johnny Moore, Gerhart Thrasher, Andrew Thrasher, and Bill Pinkney singing, with Jimmy Oliver on guitar.

  • definately Johnny Moore...the same guy that sang lead on the Drifters hit "Under The Boardwalk"

  • @srercrcr It sounds like Clyde McPhatter
