I do not agree with the term "dummy verb". " Do" is an operator that must be used in order to make some sentences grammatical. To make sentences negative the operator is used. The "do" operator is very hard for Spanish speakers and other speakers as well.

Excellent presentation. English itself, not learners of it, need(s) a drastic overhaul. There is NO reason for the "do" word to be used. Nor, moreover, for the pluralization of it in the 3rd person singular. It's absurd! Especially when we realize that such "rules' are, were, always convention, and any convention may as well be something else--something perhaps simpler and cleaner: He don't speak English, or, as in days of yore, "He speak(s) English not." Etc.
