The Florida East Coast Railroad is a 365 mile Class 1 railroad operating exclusively in the State of Florida. In 1885 Henry Flagler began the railroad as a narrow gauge line in Jacksonville, and by 1896 it was standard gauge and extended to Miami.

The Florida East Coast travels the length of Florida from Jacksonville to Miami. This show includes beautiful night shots, as well as daytime action galore as the railroad traverses many bridges along the Atlantic coast.

We'll visit Bowden Yard in Jacksonville, Beaver Street Tower, the Jacksonville Container Yard, Miami's Hialeah Yard and the FEC's locomotive repair shops.

  • Keep in mind this video was made several years ago. The fact that the Beaver Street Tower is in the movie proves that. It was demolished quite a few years ago.

  • Kinda dated. They have had six axle power for over a year. The 100 series motors are SD70M-2s.

  • we know how old this is, about the last statement about fec only owning 4 axle power, obviously then do now own 6 axle power

  • Also, the company name is, and always has been, "Florida East Coast Ralway", not Railroad.

  • The FEC is a 351 mile route. The Moultree cutoff shaved about 14 miles off the original route length.

  • One error, he said 500 series is GP39-2, they are GP38-2, the FEC does not own any GP39-2. Also as to the class 1 vs class 2 debate. It was a Class 1 railroad until the FRA changed how they determine that status, it used to be by the number of mainline track miles and tonnage, they changed it at some point to revenue.

  • I'll never be the same now that Fortress owns them.

  • Class I designation is by revenue, not train sizes. It is based on the previous 2 years, so it isn't something you can change when you want to. There are advantages for a railroad to be a class II rather than a Class I. The FEC wanted the Class II designation.

  • It's good to see that Henry Flagler's company is still around and hasn't been bought up by CSX.

Was that restored rail car one of Henry's private cars or is it just a restored passenger car?

  • This must be kind of old Beaver Street tower was razed in the late 90's
