My Father in Law can no longer be trusted with a loaded firearm. I did what I had to do at the urging of his grown children. The family all say they don't know what happened to the last gun but I'm not believing it.

  • No matter what, the gun must be accounted for. What happens if someone steals it from you? I would call the local DA and ask him? Know any cops you can trust? It should be destroyed and accounted for some how.

  • @mobiltec Good point, I'm gonna do some asking around.

  • Sad but true that we all get old and sometime loose sight of what is going on. The OLD revolvers can fire by dropping (no safety bar). Bottom line better Safe Than Sorry. NEVER NEVER turn in a firearm to the police. Just put it away for later. Never Never do any thing to disable it and leave it with him. You could take out the cylinder to make it safer. Good luck.

  • @archersfriend Thanks.

  • I deal with it almost every day now. I don't know what to tell you. My dads weapon of choice is his car. I just hope he don't kill someone with it.

  • @jefferyrowe1960 Mom wrecked her car and kept wanting to get another one but I think she knows now. Red still asks us to fix his minivan lol.

  • 1. why would you ever have a gun destroyed... 2. its a nice little gun 3. whats it going to hurt in your house?

  • it sounds like he has a touch of alzheimer's.We had to do the same thing. Since it is in his keep it. It will wind up being part of his estate and your wife will give it to you. Afterall it is his daughter right? Did I hear you right. It will be switched to your name when they find him incompandent. You're doing the right thing. Last thing you need is him shooting your daughter because he don't know her for a couple minutes. Did I make any sense?

  • My father shot himself at age 73, suicide, he was terminal with cancer. 2008
