  • Well first of all I would never equate Paradise with a comfortable middle class background however ironic that may be. Secondly I don't assume you are anything apart from liking MS which equates to good taste or at least a taste for a sense of adventure. Thirdly I don't sneer and if I do I'm trying to give it up..

  • I don't understand 'infant from paradise' and whether your intention is to compliment or to sneerily ridicule the comfortable middle-class upbringing I had. I have 'good taste' because, in a generation of cultural banality and musical frivolity, old music (60's, 70's, 80's) dissolves whatever sentiments of alienation and anger I have towards my generation and replaces them with either total indifference or exasperation-fuelled passion to change the things I don't like about the world.

  • Heard from them in early 80 with the strange boutique single. (18 at the time) the b side Surfin SW 12 is great, too. Loved the first two albums as well, though I didn't get round to seeing them until 82 (at the Fridge). You seem to have good taste. An infant from paradise, I presume.

  • This was the first song I ever heard by the Set. I was 13 at the time and was scouring my parents' dusty CD collection when I happened upon this track on a horrendous 1980's compilation album. I'm 15 now, and although I don't listen to them that much nowadays, I'll always remember the first time I heard this and my childish obsession with Bid and the band when I was about 14. Thank you, Bid, for entertaining my tiny brain so spuriously (get the reference?)

  • Thanks for this. First time in ages. Takes me back to living in Highbury in 81
