  • @KofykatKashyap Aaahhh, I gotcha, thanks for the clarification,

    Will

  • @willkempartschool it isn't my first. I'm an artist. But was asking coz all you get here are local brands and since I've only sold about 3 pieces now I can't afford to splurge on windsors. :-D

  • @KofykatKashyap Brilliant stuff, artist quality Pebeo it is!

Good luck with your first painting.

    Will

  • @willkempartschool wow, that was very sweet of you, thanks a lot. :-D Pebeo is very affordable here so I don't think it's be an issue of the money spent. Windsor and Newton on the other hand sells for a really high price (just checked an online site)

  • @KofykatKashyap Hey KofykatKashyap, I've just had a look on the Pebeo website and they do an artist quality range which would be a great choice. if you don't want the expensive of all artist quality then definitely buy artist quality white and student grade colours. It will make a big difference in your paintings and make it easier to cover over any mistakes!

  • @willkempartschool thanks a lot. :-) I've only seen this Pebeo brand here. I'll have to try and find these.

  • @KofykatKashyap I use golden paints and Winsor & Newton, Liquitex is also a good brand. These are the artist quality paints.

I've written a post on my site about the pros and cons of artist quality paint that you might find of interest.

  • What brand of paints do you use? I'm an acrylic beginner and i don't get much variety where I live... could do with some advice before i order online.

  • @willkempartschool Thanks Will,

    Hi Kevin,

As a rule of thumb a warm light source, eg: orange/yellow light, will cast a cool shadow and a cool light source eg: blue North light, would cast a warm shadow.

For the shadow colour if you use burnt umber for the warms then add ultramarine blue to cool it down for the cools.

Some classical painters used to work with a warm black and a cool black so they could tweak the shadow colours easily.

    Hope this helps

    Will
