Yes, i believe Leland Palmer sung the Original
-
For those who questioned what it means. She is saying mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy a kid will eat ivy too wouldn't you? Kids are baby goats. The woudn't you is just facetious. :) I love this song!

Nice cover indeed, but we all know that Leland Palmer sings the original.

It's a play on the sound of the words. It's actually:
"Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat Ivy. A Kid will eat Ivy too, wouldn't you?"
A "Mare" is an adult female horse
A "Doe" is a female deer
"Little Lambs" are... well, Little Lambs
A "Kid" is a young goat
Jazz up the lyrics a little bit and you have Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats etc...
Delightful Dodie .
Like her more then Doris Day.
The words are very clear and funny to my ear,
but what means Mairzy Doats ?
Chris.
