one of the most impressive parts of PCE ABII, my favorite thing about it, the landing. the way the runway / air strip kinda "scales" in (PCE has no hardware scaling) and looks, it is VERY well done!

PC-Engine AfterBurner. while nowhere near as awesome as the arcade, it's a VERY impressive conversion concidering the enourmous difference in power between the PCE and SEGA's
'X Board' -the hardware that runs the arcade version. (2x 68000 CPUs, 256 sprites, the most advanced "Super Scaler" technology of the time, etc. the PCE can't compete but it's AB is still fun and more colorful than the Genesis version.

better than mega drive.

By far the best conversion out there by miles destroying the Amiga, C64, Atari ST and others by a long shot. PC Engine when programmed correctly was a very powerful machine. Why any of us owned C64, Amiga, ST etc is beyond me when this PC Engine was out there, I guess we were just ill-informed.

@SturmvogelPrime the other version you neglected to mention was like a simulator ride which the game controlled itself.

Impressive. I know the PC engine wasnt much for scaling and parallax but this gives a good illusion that it can do both.
-
looks good... they left the rocks and grass from the 1st stage intact unlike the genesis/x68000 versions

Interesting: In the arcade port of ABII the aircraft carrier has "128" on it. In the TG16/PCE port, it has "256" on it.

"OK killa don't really want to argue but the TG-16 is an 8 bit system do your research." Research? I've spent the last few years *coding* for the TG16. I don't need to do any research. The only thing '8bit' on the system is the CPU. The sound, if you can even put a 'bitness' label to such devices, is not 8bit. Nor are the two 16bit video chips. 6 audio with PCM instruments and sample playback is *hardly* 8bit, 'killa' ;) But you don't need specs, any fool can *hear* the difference.

OK killa don't really want to argue but the TG-16 is an 8 bit system do your research. I won't respond to any more of your comments. I could care less about lead ins and the music doesn't sound better and neither does the SE IMO. If you don't like it have fun not liking my opinions you will eventually get over it.

"The se and music suck ass though and sound very 8 bit." ??? How do they sound 8bit? Do yourself a favor and go play the famicom or master system version. Then come back and tell me is this still sounds *8bit*. This port has additional leads in some tracks that the Genesis and arcade port lack. The music in *this* version is much better than the Genesis version. That's not even debatable.

they where on the original after burner arcade released only in japan.
The on the tg16 is based on the sms which is based on the proto ab1 on the arcades.
Most ppl did not like it either so it got canned on ab2 arc.
afterburner II is pretty decent and yea I love the pc engine chip music! Because pc engine root's is based around 8-bit CPU I guess there were a few companies that didn't spend much time exploiting the 16bit graphics chip or PSG sound chip.
