If two characters both use the same d-pad move (spins, jumps, or poses) at the same time, you get effects like the truck's horn going off in this stage, or the explosions in the galactic stage. Also if you look at the background, you can see the dolphins leaping out of the water.

I have an AlchemyTV DVR card with a composite video input, which I got a few years ago so I don't know if they still make it. There probably are similar cards out there.
