  • i think it's disturbing that jim carries main influence was a computer generated character

  • Unfortunately that's a huge misnomer. Jim Carrey didn't base any characters or was influenced in any way with Max Headroom. Jim started his career in 1980. Five whole years BEFORE Max Headroom even existed! Max Headroom's first appearance was in the "Max Headroom Show" a talk show popular in the UK in 1985, not to be confused with futuristic drama "Max Headroom: 20 minutes into the future" which debut in 1987. So I guess its purely coincidental.

  • The NEW Coke fad ran from April 1985- July 1985(it was called a "marketing goof") so shouldn't ad be dated 1985 not 1986?

  • Yes you are right BUT, it gets complicated. "New" Coke did cease to be, but instead of totally killing New Coke, the Coca Cola company repackage the New Coke formula in their original "regular" Coke bottles and cans. After many complaints came the birth of "Coca Cola Classic" but many stores for a few years sold the re-bottled New Coke as the plain ol regular Coke.

Plus this commercial was aired in early 1986 according to the records on my old.

  • this guy was annoying, scary, weird, funny, and interesting all in one...that was the 80's in a nut shell.

  • Well described. I agree!

  • I feel like its 1984 (the bad kind).

  • creepy ads...creeeeepy

  • omg im so scared right now, i nearly died of peer uder terror watching this!!!!!

  • Also, I just found-out that in the United States, there is sucrose-sweetened Coke available year-round. Go to either the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania (Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton, PA) or Cleveland, Ohio. Lehigh Valley Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and Cuyahoga Coca-Cola Bottling Co. use sucrose year-round.

And on that note, Pepsi Throwback can suck it.

  • Coke still exists.

    Pepsi sucks!

  • Hmm....I do remember starting in 1986 Coke started using the "Coca Cola Classsic" TM on thier product to commemorate the centinial but they continued to use the name until 1993. So they still sold new coke well into '85 but called the old formlua "Coca Cola" interesting.

  • man...u just explained max so perfectly. that is the 80's except i wouldnt put annoying in there.
