First video test with my new Canon T3i (600d). Portrait of men playing Chinese Chess outside Boston Chinatown. Please forgive my shaky hands, I hadn't invested in stabilized lenses yet. I shot and edited the video, and the music is "Recurring" by Bonobo. Enjoy!

I was using a shotgun mic, which is very directional, so it picks up almost exclusively what it's being pointed at. Also, I brought up the audio at that point, and lowered the music a bit, I think.

I mostly used the Canon 50mm 1.4, but after making this video I bought a few stabilized lenses, which helps with camera shake during video. Both the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 and the Canon 24-105 f/4 have constant apertures and IS, and have great image quality.

  • This is great! (saw the link on Noahs wall). I love the music. and I really like the tile tapping on the table @1:05. How did you isolate that in editing w/o getting other background noise?

  • what lens do you use?
