Here is my failed attempt at replacing my iMac G4's hard drive. If anything it was fun enough just being able to take a look inside the machine.

I am not giving up trying to fix it yet so if you have any ideas, please let me know!

  • to all you mac lovers, isn't it so lovely to see all those PC parts inside your Mac? FWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH (All those parts are found in regular PC's, nothing there is MAC)

  • @junglemage666 You mean to say that my Mac isn't made from magic and unicorn tears!? Steve Jobs lied to me!

  • did you go to disk utility and format the new harddrive?

  • have you tried SSD ? i want one for my laptop but am not sure how they compare to a normal hard drive. Your HD replacement looks interesting, it is always best to take a vacuum cleaner to fans etc!

  • @Macintoshgeek apparently hardcore mac people believe that Mac systems are different from Windows Based Computers. Yes though, Steve Jobs constantly made it seem like they were made of unicorns and magic :P like the iPad tablet, was like its so revolutionary.. tablets were around for many many years before the iPad but he made it seem like a new idea. Anyways i like macs, i have some, they are nice and work good, but overall its same as PC, problems and good things.

  • @mattnanokid it would still show a hard drive, just would have a sign over it saying its not compatible for mac install (until formatted into Mac Os Extended and Apple Boot) The drive just isnt connected properly

  • FORMAT IT (or make a partition)

  • Did you use an external hard drive?

  • might be the jumper on the hard drive

  • the black conecter is probaly broke or not in place that is why it is stiking up thats what my did need more help measgge me

  • Hi two ideas, one, when you boot up the install disk click language then go utilities then disk utility, see if you can see the drive, you will need to format it to mac journaled and under option click it for power pc mac not intel.

if you see no drive then you need to compare the jumper settings on the back of the new hard drive, read the hard drive label and see if there is a thing that is connecting two pins together, check its position. you also need a instal dvd for tiger or leopard

  • Don't you have to format the drive into the Mac os extended (journaled) type?
