Didn't notice until I saw them live back in the day that Kim's backing vocal sort of almost makes the fucking song. Such an incredible and insistent foil to what Black Francis is doing, makes for chills.

This is a song about an unbelievable discovery of a girl and the desire to share it with Charles: going Down to the Well.
However, what Charles values the most is her company. More than anything, what really counts to him is the girl's existence and experiencing a new feeling. Everything else is secondary.
Awe-inspiring.

Down to the well and Hang wire are the pinnacle of this album. Velouria and the others are awesome too but those 2 songs are from another dimension.
