This tune comes from the playing of Tommy Jarrell. Titled John Henry. Round Peak style playing is usually done on fretless banjos, but here I'm playing a fretted one. Tuned gDGBD

  • Nice playing - I like the clawhammer style better than any other. Have you recorded "Jerusalem Ridge", my favorite?

  • @Woody2chuck Thanks for the comment! I've heard Jerusalem Ridge a lot but have never learned to play it.

  • another great example of fine clawhammer banjo playing. Post some more. Do you play that fiddle as well ? I love to see youngsters playing oldtimey.A good tune is a good tune to ANY musician. Music has nothng to do with gender or location.

  • Thanks for the compliments! Yes, I do play fiddle. I have a couple fiddle video on here... check out my "channel" and I think you'll see them all listed there. Thanks!

  • Thanks for watching! Obviously you are a very intelligent and insightful person, and I will surely take your comments to heart.

    Have a good one!

  • Mosstrooper7 is totally right. Danielkeeton is obviously an imbecile. What is the right to this music anymore anyways? I'm 16 and started playing the banjo about 6 months ago, but I feel more connected to it then the classical piano i played before! who say's i don't have the right to this music. Oh and is Appalachia a word btw?

  • Damn, you're good! I think my next "project" will be to start learning to play clawhammer style. I really like the way it sounds. I do play banjo, but only bluegrass/Scruggs style.

  • Great playing. I've enjoyed your videos. I think that the melody line is off just a little at the tail end (Hammer's gonna be the death of me Lawd Lawd....) when you repeat this the banjo skips away from the melody. I'd love your chops... perhaps someday, but I'm hoping to develop the feel. Advice a respected player gave me was sing while playing. This way as I learn I won't ever forget the melody and how the words fit with the banjo. Keep it up man. I like how you bounce "death of me". Sweet

  • @danielkeeton Wow! No one owns music. I think that this young man's love of this old time music says a lot about the value of the old southern players who learned a lot of their stuff from southern black folks. some people think that white folks shouldn't play this either. Well...? It's music and who ever gets to hearing it if they start liking it, well, some of the them are going to want to play it. This kid is doing a great job. I'd love to play with that confidence someday. No one owns music

  • super playing! love your music

  • I really enjoyed this and I have taken to liking the clawhammer style. Thanks for a great performance!

  • I liked it a lot.... thanks.
