Davey was about 23 years old here. In 1980 in UK wrestling he was 17-18, so yeah of course he got bigger. Every male that works out in the gym would get bigger, steroids or not.
Vince had the roster power 2 make dozens of matches like these(scientific/technical)but he was scared n cheap with the action. Action wise he couldve competed with the nwa in the 80's. That was the problem with his in ring product,it sucked and it didn't have to
Oh I am only saying that about Smith in comparison to Tom/Dynamite, who was by far, the most explosive wrestler I've ever seen. Speaking of pre-juice days....I"m from Western Canada....Davey, Dynamite, of course all the Harts, etc spent a lot of their youth here...there is SHOCKING footage of them all wrestling....terrifying to realize that Dynamite was supposed to weigh about 150lbs (as he was sadly, when I met him post-juice), Davey is a string-beany...165ish.....Brett too...
@datacipher Completely agree Dynamite was better. Iam guessing at this point in his career Davey hadnt been juicing long as he looks a little unbalanced as if he still hadnt got used to his larger frame. If you look at his videos from his days in the UK (wrestling under the name Young David) He moves a lot better and is more balanced in his movements see: watch?v=3XuYJXF7rBo (from 1982) and watch?v=7IHwEC17Flc (from 1980) He was a great wrestler just to big and unbalanced to be able to show it.
As good as Davey was, Dynamite was 10X better. Much faster, much more acrobatic, much better technically. Yes, a match with Steamboat would probably, in my mind the two greatest wrestlers of all time. I saw this live back at the time, and what class from Steamboat who was famous for making all his opponents look good...here he really let Davey shine, even though it was Steamboat who was the singles star...
@ckendall67 This was The Wrestling Classic? That was a pretty good technical match. During the Rock N Wrestling era ya never seen any face(good guy) vs. face matches, the tournament explains why.
