In August 2004, the Australian Railway Historical Society (Victorian Divison) ran a tour around North Queensland from Cairns - Townsville - Mt Isa - Normanton - Mt Surprise - Forsayth - Mt Surprise - Cairns featuring travel on regularly scheduled passenger and tourist services.
Part 5 of this series contains footage on the Savannahlander between Mt Surprise and Gelaro. We were supposed to travel all the way to Cairns by train, but an overturned road train blocked our progress. Unfortunately this resulted in a bus ride back to Cairns.
The day after, we had a free morning so I did a bit of railfanning getting some shots of the Tilt Train, the Cairns - Kuranda scenic railway and the modified South African steam locomotive 3620 which was operating trips up the Kuranda range at the time.
