@AlexTrebucq I know your comment is a year old, but I had to reply. :) The Aegis Program actually was started in the late fifties with the Advanced Surface Missile System, later named AEGIS. What is really cool about the system though is it can be completely upgraded to match todays threats. It is basically computer software. There are 7 versions (baselines) of AEGIS, the 7th, the most advanced version, was installed in 2007. It is an amazing system.
