  • Isn't it called Stalingrad?

  • It was called Stalingrad in the war after Stalin... but then changed to Volgagrad after the Volga River .. since Stalin was not a positive model for Russia after the war. There is a huge statue of Lenin there on the river now, too.

  • Um dude, what's wrong with Stalin?

  • Well... he is dead... other than that I was only commenting on what I have been told. I could care less if he was good or bad. Im not political. Some say Putin is bad .. he has done wonders for Russia... Some say Bush is great.. Im from Texas and wont even comment on that ! I married a Russian lady.. To me , Russia is a great country ... wouldnt trade ANY of my experiences there for anything ! When I get my residency we plan to live in Russia .. NOT America... so , if you are ever in Moscow...

  • =)nice hear that, i met some americans in st petersburg while studying there and they dissed russia a lot..i also love it here, im from finland

  • The problem with "Americans" is.. 99% of them think the USA is the best country in the world and they can't learn anything from any other country. It is "our way or the highway". "Those" Americans are 100% wrong. You can learn something from everyone. I like to admit I am in the "other" 1%.

  • @alanlovescrankthat In English it's more commonly know as the Staue of Mother Russia, or something along those lines.

  • i am from Volgograd) and i glad to see american's tourists in our city)))

  • The Rodina Statue???? Wtf Rodina Is My Name....Rodina Williams

  • wow! imagine that! a statue 2 times taller that the statue of liberty....

  • i'd love to see that too :D

  • That the Mamayev Kurgan. One of the most important points during the Batlle of Stalingrad.

  • What a glorious statue, definitely on my list of things to see before I die.

  • This was the place, and this was the very hill, on which the most important single battle of World War Two (The Great Patriotic War) was fought. If they had made the Rodina statue out of the blood the Russians shed here, instead of concrete, it would be even larger than it is now. This is a monument to courage, courage and utter determination.
