yes this is true, valmiki was a thief but fortunately for him he came on the right path. there are more great saints who used to be thieves but became God's truest devotees of all.

This story is very true and is popular. Valmiki was a thief who later became a great sage. They did not complete the story in this clip how he became a sage.
