In 1983 the second last of the early twentieth century Manly ferries was farewelled from the harbour she'd spent 61 years serving. Unlike her sister ships, Baragoola was given a send off that did the old vessel proud; crowded to the max with passengers even on her roof (not normally allowed), she made her last trip from Manly to Circular Quay.
Twenty five years later, she lies forgotten and decaying in Berry's Bay, all but abandoned by her owner and seriously neglected by a public who gave her a farewell never seen before or since for a Sydney ferry.
Now, Baragoola is fading; rusting & forgotten, but it's not too late to save her and preserve her place in the history of our working harbour.
We need to get in and get proactive; contact the various Heritage organisations on a State and Federal level, newspapers and individuals that can help reverse her plight.
The task is made more difficult due to her being in private ownership, but a start needs to be made before this ferry is lost forever and joins the ranks of the many ferries before her that have been broken up.

It is wonderful that plans are underway to try to save the Baragoola.....I hope they succeed....Baragoola is part of Sydney's history!

I remembered seeing the vessel there a few months ago and was wondering if it was part of the Sydney Maritime Museum's Fleet and if not wouldnt it be a great way to bring visitors to the Museum from Circular Quay at a additional price to the entry.
