a few months after that, as a motorway, whose stanchions were already being built at that fateful night was built as it was a well know place (to the locals) for crashes, but the van came from the borders of Scotland and England as does a whole lot of other stuff then as now, the difference is now there is a level roadway and unless a driver is really looking for it, the gorge is almost impossible to see from the motorway.

That was as far as I know the largest amount of people killed in an owner/driver van, and there was only three seats in the front, the rest was filled up in the back with a couple of mattress' and sleeping bags. The frightening sight is still vividly imaged in my mind, and the thankfulness the van did not somehow explode and catch fire, and the dreadful realisation of not being able to get anywhere near the van 250 ft at the bottom of the gorge, real nightmare stuff and the bridge was used for

or what was left, as by the time we reached where they were they could be seen at the bottom of this ravine, no one moving and the police and fire engines were yet to arrive, as I and three other cars and two trucks watched to see movement or hear anything, and there was nothing.

This was in a tiny Town on the way to our usual holiday with my brother whom lives in Cornwall UK of course, and in the local paper the next day were pics of the damage to the bridge and details of all 14 killed.

I am not a 'know it all' by any means, but if anyone see this no matter how many vehicles over-take you, as if a second is a life or death thing, do not go faster to keep up, and just let them continue to slot in front of you no matter how many do this.

I am in the UK and remember a very similar accident type to this where a super noisy transit van overtook on what I knew was an extremely dangerous bend leading to a narrow bridge over a 250 ft gorge, and we were almost 50 cars behind them
