@ShoodDaFckinWoop Actually yes, it was. The bulk of major scientific breakthroughs and continuation of formal education took place in the Orient. Islam in the 7th through 14th centuries was actually one of the most tolerant religious groupings at that time. The Middle East has actually been in a massive decline since the 16th Century.

@Solarxis Perhaps, although without the Church, science would have also had to make up for lost time in the Dark Ages, and the Church wasn't nearly as oppressive as people today make it up to be (hell, it even theorized the Big Bang, for example). However, it is ludicrous to say that the Orient was ever a "highly civilized land" when the culture of then influenced the culture it has today: one of intolerance, extreme violence, and an odd sense of "loyalty."

@ShoodDaFckinWoop Well, for example: Oriental > European Anatomy - Due to religious believes ("human beings are created in God's image") research on the human body was prohibited for scientists like Da Vinci etc. in Europe... but overall you're right, I guess.
-
"Highly civilized land"? The Orient? The same place that hangs homosexuals and beheads non-Muslims TODAY was a "civilized land" back then? I think not.
