Goodridge made an immediate impression on MMA competition, winning his first two fights in UFC 8 to reach the final against Don Frye. His first fight, against Paul Herrera, is considered one of the most brutal knockouts in UFC history - After Herrera attempted a fireman's carry, Goodridge trapped both of his arms in a crucifix hold and proceeded to deliver multiple elbow blows to the head, ending the bout in 13 seconds. He had knocked Herrera out after his second elbow thrown and proceeded to drop multiple more elbow strikes to Herrera's skull as Herrera lay flaccid and unconscious.

  • best ufc knockout of all time

  • @vECIHOHQ

he was trying to make sure he could get the arm locked in. Herrera could have got out if Goodridge didn't get that arm locked like that. but once he did, there was no getting out. people don't realize how much strength you have pulling like that. so it was just a matter of pulling that one arm towards his chest and locking the other two with his legs. from there, Paul was pretty much screwed.

  • @DaveFrange Dude, read the comment I was responding to. The guy below me asked if this was STILL allowed in MMA.

  • dude was out from the first elbow, bet he never fought agian

  • @Dragonball239 No. It's a retarded rule that needs to be amended but the "twelve to six" elbow strikes are not allowed to the head of a grounded opponent. The geniuses that made the rules were led to believe these are more dangerous than other elbow strikes, so while one can swipe the elbow across or drop an elbow straight down, you can not bring the elbow in an upward direction and downward onto an opponent. It is how Jon Bones Jones received his only loss, by disqualification to Matt Hamill.

  • @ThePinkMan This fight (if you want to call it that) occurred in UFC 8, which was before the formation and affirmation of the unified MMA rules that the UFC and many other organizations adhere to today. The first few UFCs had only the following rules: No Biting, No Eye Gouging. KOs like this one, as well as other unsavory techniques used by a number of fighters, helped move the sport towards adopting more rules and gaining more legitimacy going forward.

  • @Dragonball239 I think so.

The UFC bans elbow strikes that use the tip, but only when the elbows come from a straight downwards angle. The elbows Goodridge was throwing were coming from sort of a sideways angle, so they MIGHT be all right.

  • is that move still allowed in the UFC?
