Cynthia Zeroscillator as input to Make Noise QMMG with Doepfer A-143-1 Complex Envelope Generator as the gate signal. Run through a Tip Top Audio Z5000 digital delay. Sorry for the poor quality. I will do better next time.

  • I just posted 2 "musical" examples that are fully modular as Video Responses. If ig88sir will approve them you can link to them here. If not, just look at my Analogue Solutions beta-testing videos. Fully modular stuff.

  • you never sent any video responses. please send then and i will approve.

  • the problem is...... nobody wth a modular seems to demo anything in a real song situation. To this day all we have is SWITCHED ON BACK..... TOMITA....... etc.

Is it because people dont know what to do with them musically?

  • There is nothing on Switched on Back that can't be done with 1 minimoog and overdubbing. I have a few non-modular synths for my bread and butter sounds. Buying a modular system is so much more than just simple osc-filter-env. Why limit yourself to just that? I bought a Serge TKB since it doesn't conform to any diatonic or chromatic scale. Dissonance is great too. I enjoy both musical and dissonant styles and think they can be merged well. Listen to Skinny Puppy's 'Last Rights'.

  • can someone make a video of a MUSICAL application of these modular toys.... instead of just making R2D2 sounds?

  • If I was to do something musical I would just use this patch to a scale and then record it in a track. This post was just to show what kind of textures you can get from modular gear rather than hard wired synths. The musical posibilities are up to you...It's a monophonic patch that can be used to any scale..via CV or MIDI.

I enjoy viewing youtube videos of knob tweaking. They are very useful. At least I can get an idea of the modulation and sonic possibilities.

  • Actually, I think this IS a musical application. You ever listen to Morton Subotnick, Pauline Oliveros, or Karlheinz Stockhausen? They were all making music like this back in the 60's!

  • this sounds pretty fucked! I'm trippin' balls and you're barely even riding this beast!

  • @ig88sir

Oh, missed this reply. I'm sending you something now then.

  • @ enemyindisguise........ yes they know what to do with them... WE PLAY CHOO CHOO

  • @mysticradio

    RIGHT !

    like the guys with modelltrains...

  • amazing

  • Not sure why this clip has attracted so many "this isn't my idea of music" comments, but for me, assuredly, this is music, and much more interesting than most other, often formulaic, music. I especially love complex, sonically interesting glurpy environments, where there are also large scale changes - I think this segment succeeds on all counts. And I'm not sure why people pursuing modular synth videos would expect "normal" music. (Obviously, though, it can be done.) Keep on glurping!

  • I can see one of them above. I'll resubmit the other one.
