Congressman Boozman introduced H.R. 1168 to help provide job opportunities for veterans who have been unemployed for four months or more. According to September Bureau of Labor Statistics, 990,000 veterans were out of work in September, the highest in decades. Of that number, nearly 600,000 were between the ages of 35 and 64 the years of highest earning power and coincidentally, the highest financial burden on a family, and the age when few veterans have access to veterans education and training programs. By passing this legislation, unemployed veterans who would normally bypass retraining opportunities will be more likely to participate and qualify for better-paying jobs.
