Disclaimer: unfortunately I cannot be responsible for damages to your equipment as this is not a common rapier or service procedure and you will be using non original parts that said if you follow the video to every step and make sure you are confident you have the correct parts youll be fine.
(Sorry just covering my ars)

This is a video showing you how to replace the little pop up target light on the front of your Technics SL MK2 turntable to an LED.
the advantages to this are, the LEDs draw less power, they are brighter, they have a longer life span and as an added bonus they work out cheaper in the first place.
By the way the LEDs on my decks look blue but they are actually white, they look blue on the camera because they have a high colour temperature.

Order codes:

Order code for maplin led:
N28BY = WHITE.
N30BY = GREEN.
N33BY = SUNSET ORANGE.
N31BY = BLUE.
N32BY = YELLOW.

Order code for maplin voltage regulator:
QL31J = (PART NUMBER: TS7805CZ)

OR

UJ54J = (PART NUMBER: L78S05CV)

When ordering the voltage regulator be sure to check the part number on the part its self to insure you are getting the correct part.

Order code for Radioshack voltage regulator: 276-1770 = (PART NUMBER: ML7805A)

WANINGS:
Dont have the turntable plugged in while you have the plastic case off, i did the test with the multi-meter so you dont have to.

Check and double check that there are no short circuits before powering up your turntable, and never allow a short circuit to occur in the lamp terminals. Or you can permanently damage transistors or regulators in your turntable.

  • Huge fan of your 1200s videos, your videos have helped me a lot. I was wondering if you knew how take apart a 1200 tone arm, I recently had the aluminum cabinets of my 1200s powder coated white and I would love to know how to take apart my tonearm so I can send those pieces to get powder coated white to match the cabinet. THANKS!

  • @BPMgear Thank you for your feed back and kind words.

    Sure, I did a video on how to service the height adjustment, that will show you how to safely take the tone arm apart, the bits you can take apart anyway.

    I wouldn't take the Gimble apart, there are lots of tiny bearings inside there and you need specialised tools to do the screws up to a specific torque, or the tone arm will never work properly again.

    That video will help you take it apart safely.

    Thanks again for your comment

    Nice One ; )

  • @viperfrank watch?v=_xJs7J1RViU

  • part#'s for the v.reg.....but no resistor #s..........what bands does the resistor you installed carry please?

    thanks viperfrank!! ------BIGUP on jungle vinyl choice in the vids too by the way!

  • @TornRuggedAudio35 It depends on the current of the LED that your using, you have to use that little utility that I showed you to calculate the resistor value for your LED. but a 100 ohm (brown Black brown) normally does for most LED's running at between 25 - 30mA.

    Hope this helped and thank you for your comment.

    Nice One ; )

  • @viperfrank, hi james my pitch green led is dead, can you help me to fix it (where to buy a new, ... ), i'm sure it will be usefull for many guys, sorry for the writing i'm french, thanks a lot for all the vids. big up from Paris.

  • @vladnyrki Thank you! I will be doing a video on this, I will cover where to get the LED and the type of LED to get.

    Also your writing was fine, I understood all of it.

    Thanks for your comment and your kind words.

    Nice One ; )

  • Thanks a ton man, great video and very informational! I forgot the voltage regulator on the first one being stupid and blew transistor regulators Q2, Q3. I found the part number as #SD637 but can't figure out what the cross reference to it is. If ya have an idea let me know! They are ridiculously expensive online for the exact one. But thanks again! The second table turned out great!

  • @DunksterP Oh have they, ah maplin are a pain in the arse sometimes.

    you should have no trouble getting LEDs form eBay.

    Thanks for your comment and your feed back.

    Nice One ; )

  • Hi there, just for the record, Maplin have now discountiuned those LEDs. I have got a couple of alternatives, so I'll post up results :) Dunk
