This is EDUCATIONAL footage I found from a Bikeafe video 1999. It features a Police motorcyclist from Thames Valley, filmed from a helicopter and commentary put on afterwards. Great clip.

  • Agree bring back Traffic Police - - hate the way GATSO etc have taken over Grrrrrrrr.

Thanks for another Great Video Nigel :-)

to everyone else who likes the videos Nigel posts why not go out and buy

the Police rider's Handbook to better motorcycling (motorcycle roadcraft)

    Best 12.99 u will spend :-)

  • Just putting an interactive pdf together on Roadcraft, will send you a link when done.

  • I Have been told Manny times, keep left of the road were possible when not overtaking or turning.

This biker seem to keep to the right of the road, why is this?

  • It is called advanced positioning and you have to be very confident in your riding to do it. It must be 100% safe before you attempt it. Sometimes it does give you a better view of the road.

    Regards

    Nigel

  • This is why we are still called Great Britain, because we do things or at least we did do things properly before these left-wing do gooders (A.K.A safety police) put their two penneths in. Sorry guys I just believe having more skilled police (like this one) on the road is better than Gatsos. Yes I am a biker

  • Thanks

  • That must be the best video representation of road positioning I've ever seen. Excellent.

  • The lorry driver may not have yet noticed the Police rider.

The lorry may have needed to alter his road position to pass slow traffic just as the rider commits to the overtake.

Let me reiterate there can be no criticism of the Police rider but as this is educational footage, he might have explained why no movement to obtain a view up the inside was required.

  • Good video and thanks for sharing.

The rider's position and commentary of why and what he is doing is first rate.

Although I was not riding the road and cannot therefore speak critically of the Police rider, I would have personally obtained a view up the inside/nearside to check for slow moving vehicles (e.g. mopeds or cyclists or indeed pedestrians) prior to the overtake on the white lorry which features towards the end of film.

The two main points to bring from this observation are:

  • This is really useful Nigel, thanks.

  • It`s a shame the U.K Police, Use BMW motorcycles, Not Triumph`s, And Gordon Brown talked about British jobs for British people

  • Lovely riding - a pleasure to see.

  • @natedog777000 He means as opposed to leaning. Such as around a corner.

Maybe try riding a bike before you comment ;)

  • many thanks video worth to watch.

  • @natedog777000 Hi there, what bike have you got?

  • Beautiful, hard to believe he was only doing NSL because it was so fluid. Commentry so nicely paced too. I'd a been jabbering like a fool. I've just saved that to my favorites-along with one of a dolphin that can blow 'smoke' rings under water. LOL

  • Big thumbs up from the other side of the pond. A lot of riders would benefit from this type of instruction! Great video, sir.
