Video number twenty in the A T Short series: Shackles. Each A T Short has its own message (sometimes two: one musical and one visual), and because each A T Short video has a different message, you may not like all of them, but you will like enough of them.

If you have been the victim of hate, of any kind, it is not your fault. Please do not suffer in silence because there are people who can help: http://www.stophate.us/links.html

As many as 3.5 million Americans are homeless each year. Of these, more than 1 million are children. In fact, The Center for American Progress estimates that GLBT youth account for 20-40 percent of homeless youth in the US because families are banishing their GLBT children as they come out younger and younger; the report finds, the average age that a GLBT youth becomes homeless is 14.4 years old, and on any given night, more than 300,000 children are homeless.

While the general impression is that the homeless are primarily the chronic and episodic, those unfortunate individuals often seen living on the streets in the downtown areas of our cities, the fact is that more than half the homeless are families with children. The vast majority of these have been thrust into homelessness by a life altering event or series of events that were unexpected and unplanned for. Contrary to the belief that homelessness is primarily the result of major traumatic events or physical and mental disabilities, there are many top causes of homelessness in America. Indeed, for those living in poverty or close to the poverty line, an "everyday" life issue that may be manageable for individuals with a higher income can be the final factor in placing them on the street. A broken down vehicle, a lack of vehicle insurance, or even unpaid tickets might be just enough to render someone homeless.

Homelessness is, in fact, caused by tragic life occurrences like the loss of loved ones, job loss, domestic violence, divorce and family disputes. Other impairments such as depression, untreated mental illness, post traumatic stress disorder, and physical disabilities are also responsible for a large portion of the homeless. Many factors push people into living on the street. Acknowledging these can help facilitate the end of homelessness in America.

HomeAid is a leading national non-profit organization that builds and renovates multi-unit shelters for America's temporarily homeless families and individuals while they rebuild their lives. HomeAid has built more than 200 multi-unit shelters with an additional 37 in development. These shelters provide more than 1,800,000 bed nights annually nationwide. Shackles:

'cause I wanna dance
'cause I wanna dance
'cause I wanna dance...

I'm gonna praise You
I'm gonna praise You
I'm gonna praise You...

'cause I wanna dance
'cause I wanna dance
'cause I wanna dance...

in the corners of mind I just can't seem to find
a reason to believe that I can break free
'cause you see I have been down for so long
feel like the hope is gone but as I lift my hands I understand
that I should praise You through my circumstance

take the shackles off my feet so I can dance
I just wanna praise You I just wanna praise You
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands
and I'm gonna praise You I'm gonna praise You...

'cause I wanna dance
'cause I wanna dance
'cause I wanna dance...

everything that could go wrong all went wrong at one time
so much pressure fell on me I thought I was gonna lose my mind
but I know you wanna see if I will hold on through these trials
but I need you to lift this load 'cause I can't take it no more

take the shackles off my feet so I can dance
I just wanna praise You I just wanna praise You
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands
and I'm gonna praise You I'm gonna praise You...

I'm gonna praise You
I'm gonna praise You
I'm gonna praise You...

take the shackles off my feet so I can dance
I just wanna praise You I just wanna praise You
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands
and I'm gonna praise You I'm gonna praise You...

been through the fire and the rain bound in every kind of way
but God has broken every chain so let me go right now

take the shackles off my feet so I can dance
I just wanna praise You I just wanna praise You
You broke the chains now I can lift my hands
and I'm gonna praise You I'm gonna praise You...

  • Great video. We all need to be reminded of all those who are not "making merry" today. I keep a 1987 Chevy pick-up with a camper cap mainly because two or three permanently/semi-permanently homeless people (friends) know how to get in if they need to use the sleeping bags I've left there to help them survive. We can each do a little something (besides giving money) to help those less fortunate. I have a video "Homeless in Washington" Hope she's warm tonight! Merry Xmas to all.

  • yes a sad sad story

  • God bless you !!!

    Merry Christmas !!!
