Australian soldiers with the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF) in Afghanistan were involved in a series of attacks with Taliban extremists in late August.
No Australian soldiers were wounded in any of these incidents, but the Taliban was known to have suffered casualties.
The soldiers protect the RTF worksite by patrolling throughout the area and maintaining a constant presence.
Australia has deployed a Reconstruction Task Force (RTF), consisting of a combined arms team, to the Oruzgan Province in southern Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper. The RTF is in partnership with the Netherlands Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) and forms part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
The RTF has a clearly defined role to work on reconstruction, improvement of provincial infrastructure and community based projects. The RTF also provides trade training to the local population and military engineering training to the Afghan National Army. This type of assistance is designed to benefit the people of Oruzgan Province well into the future and form building blocks of a stable and prosperous community.
The RTF contains around 370 ADF personnel from predominately Queensland-based units. It includes elements to provide command, security, engineering, and administrative support and is equipped with Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicles (IMV), Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAVs) and armoured engineer plant equipment.
Australia's contribution to ISAF is an important component of the Australian Government's commitment to assist Afghanistan achieve a stable and secure future.

@BasqueNYC The Australian people chose to keep the Crown as part of our Constitution in that vote. Part of the problem is there are several different models of Republican system, & no one could agree on a model to replace our current constitution, because the Australian people don't trust politicians, & it's hard to find a model that equals our current constitutional arrangement, which was written & designed by Australians & has served the Australian people brilliantly for 111 years.

@BasqueNYC Hey mate, it's an interesting thing to know about Australia that the British monarchy still holds some sentimental value within the Australian population. Truthfully, this issue has divided Australia bitterly, which I think is a sad thing for the country. In 1999 the Australian people voted to stay a Constitutional Monarchy at a compulsory federal referendum, where every Australian over 18 years of age voted in an election to choose between becoming a republic & the Crown.

@BasqueNYC
Glad to see someone supports it. There is just not enough awareness or leadership for Australia to become a republic. It wont happen for a LONG time and it fucking pisses me off.
I reckon we make the "All Australian Flag" as our national flag. Go look it up.

Australia has a history of aligning with failing empires.
100 years ago Australia aligned with Britain and your men were sacrificed in WW1
Now Australian politicians are aligning with US as it goes down the septic.
Just look at graphs of The U.S. national debt.
No wonder we find crazy excuses to invade resource rich countries.
and thanks for allowing US to build a marine base there. hehehe
Saddam was our ally before too

@JustAnotherYtuber
Do you think?
Rudd was the most popular PM ever in March then he said "no" to America request for more troops in Afghanistan. 6 months later he was kicked out by Gillard. Gillard is supposed to be from a left wing faction but she kisses US ass. I think she knows how to survive in politics. Australia's last 2 defense ministers have both said you invaded because you were invited by the Afghans. That lie wasn't even questioned by journalists. Does Israel own the media there 2?
