Spiro T. Agnew was Vice President of the United States under Richard M. Nixon. During his term, he released an LP Called "Spiro Agnew Speaks Out". On it, he attacks the US counterculture, the media and generally goes to bat for the Nixon administration. The LP contains the notorious line, "nattering nabobs of negativism" - I've heard that William Safire wrote much of these speeches.

On this little clip, Agnew could be talking about political discourse in the United States today. Note the line, "...bludgeoning the unconvinced into action." The same can be said of the right and left wings of AM talk radio and the blogoshpere.

NOTE: Agnew's sentences are an edited version and his actual statements had a different meaning.

  • "...bludgeoning the unconvinced into action."

I'm not sure what this means. I feel like I might, but I'm probably wrong.

  • Hmm... Interesting. I tend to ignore most political stuff from you, Krist. This is pretty cool, though. My political philosophies are more in line with Jello Biafra than Nirvana or R.E.M. By the way, the IHatethisshirt user brought up a good point. Do you think it's right that the RIAA is like the mafia, and President Obama not only loves them, but has appointed members there of to his staff?

  • Hey krist have you heard of "bill S. 978" aka "ten strikes bill"

it makes it a felony to stream copyrighted content -- like music in the background of a Youtube video

whats your opinion on it??? :o
