Just incredible. They've got it.

Wonderful performance. Great spirit, articulation and tempo
-
All of these players and the conductor rock absolutely! For me as a percussionist, it would almost heretic not to mention Stefan Rapp, the timpanist. He is probably one of the best interprets of Beethovens quite challenging timpani parts.
Bravo!

The players gave their best for Beethoven. Jarvi is full of himself and does not shape the structure. He just has generic "excitement" because he obviously does not take this great music seriously and certainly has little depth.
Listen to Klemperer, Kleiber and other serious conductors. But the orchestra is great.

the introduction is way too fast, it doesn't feel anything like adagio molto anymore (and beethoven's adagio is slow!), and the allegro con brio sounds almost like a caricature, it's so fast that there's no time to create and shape sounds and phrases, it all sounds like a mannheim steamroller, and it's not. it's beethoven, young, but individual, personal beethoven.
but again, for me harnoncourt/COE is the best beethoven ever. nothing comes close.
-
wow. this is even more intense than karajan's. Bravo!
-
the performances by jarvi of this and the others are really fantastic. the energy and sensitivity! those players really give their all for him. thank you for posting these.

This Beethoven 1 is even more amazing than the one performed by Haitink + LSO, live in New York Avery Fisher Hall this year. Thank you for sharing this performance!

They are wonderful!! I went to see their concert at Rose Theater (NYC) last week and it was just unbelievable.
I wouldn't say this performance is too fast at all. There is much evidence from research that tempos in the 18th and early 19th Centurys were a lot faster than is considered "normal" today, and then that Beethoven pushed orchestras further to play even faster than they were comfortable with. There are contemporary reviews which indicate this movement lasting around 8 minutes with repeats, which is roughly what Järvi achieves here.
