Being "social" is becoming more and more important for applications, especially in a mobile environment. Almost every distribution already provides the needed infrastructure for enabling applications to connect to the outer world: Telepathy provides your desktop with instant messaging features, and Libsocialweb brings social networking in your digital pocket. Both of them feature a client library (based upon GLib and Qt) to integrate their features inside any application.
