I found this completely by accident and decided to show everyone the consequences.
How it happened:
Edgar was in Doom status and I made him use the Jump command. His time ran out while he was in mid-air and the animation showing death taking away his spirit played, although he was not there on the battlefield.
After the battle he had 0hp and I was unable to revive him, so I thought that maybe if I get into another battle I could heal him in there. But then realised he was crouching as if in critical, rather than dead.
While like this, any damage caused to him took away 0hp.
The invincibility will be removed if:
-Edgar is turned Zombie
-Edgar is hit with an Instant Death attack
-Edgar is healed by any means (spell, item, healing staff, Inn, etc)
I haven't tested it (and I don't intend to), but I assume this will work with any character that can "Jump."
Equipping the character with a Reflect Ring and a Safety Bit (or possibly Memento Ring for Shadow/Relm) will mean that no spell can hit the character in battle and instant death and zombie attacks will not work. Eliminating the possibility of accidentally removing the glitch.
I have not tested if it ruins your save game by saving while the glitch is active.
edgar must have some undead equipment on

Nice hit with the Fixed Dice, also do you gain EXP with that glitch active?

It doesn't. But mine was on the SNES version. Different results. I had mog vanish in the entire battle, but when everyone else died, the battle didn't end. Mog just suddenly started using fire beam for some reason until the battle ended.
