  • Oh wow...

  • (Damn character limit)

And the diesels have always set the highest top speeds at Le Mans, so I don't understand how a Lola could have been faster at Monza, not to mention faster than F1...

"I reckon 2008 Audi or Pug set a top speed record"

What top speed record you mean? Overall? I think its pretty safe to say Antônio Pizzonia's 369.9 km/h (Italian GP 2004) is still the record and LMPs have never even been close to breaking that at Monza.

  • I want to argue. If you meant only top speeds with "quicker" (with lap times, numbers would speak for themselves, F1 is faster and by a quite clear 10-12 secs margin) despite that LMPs have less drag, they have more weight and less power than a F1 car. Usually that has equalled about 20-30 km/h lower top speed compared to F1, at least what I remember seeing trap speeds on tv broadcasts. It's hard to find actual trap speed statistics from the web.

ps. Despite my username, I'm sportscar fan too.

  • @FormulaOneSpy Do you want to argue your point? Or was that a driveby disagreement?

  • @redriverman2006 It's not exactly difficult to make a prototype faster in a straight line than an F1 car. Just the fact that they have fenders cuts back on drag significantly, which makes it easier to get good speed.

  • @redriverman2006: Probably not (all of your claims).

  • @takuradagr81 I think we have a great demo of what an F1 car would be like through there. Maybe even quicker. If I recall correctly in 2007 the Lola B07/17 Judd was quicker in a straight line than the F1 cars. Quicker even than the diesel if I'm not completely misinformed. I reckon 2008 Audi or Pug set a top speed record.
