Knees to elbows is a great core exercise with perfect application to a fundamental skill needed in Parkour; the ability to lift your body from a hanging position without changing the orientation of your arms. In order to do many techniques including underbars, pullovers, and laches, you cannot rely on only lifting your body with your arms, you must also learn to lift your body while maintaining the same arm angle in relation to the ground.

  • Since you guys are local where are good areas to practice perhaps around denver arvada broomfield or anywhere else nearby.. im just a beginner but wanna find some insipiration

  • @Zigzag956303 yeah, i have parkour gyms in englewood and boulder. google apex movement for more info.

  • I don't really have a park or a gym around where I'm at. any other place I can do it?

  • tree branches, playground bars, scaffolding are all good. if you still cant find something, id say go buy a pull up bar to install in your door at home. you can buy them from big sporting goods stores for about $20.

  • is a pull up bar (such as the Iron Gym Pull Up Bar) safe? I'm scared that attaching it to my door frame will rip out the frame, causing me to fall onto my head or neck.

  • as long as you dont kip or swing, it should be fine. that's one reason those iron gyms are kind of limited though.

  • Awesome idea, though Id like to offer a variation that you can do with this exercise. Bringing your right knee up to your left elbow, and vice versa. Good for working on more of the core muscles :)

  • what song!? its sik.

  • Hey DemonDrills, I'm a basketball player and I'm really trying to increase my core strength, which has weakened thanks to a lower back injury, which in turn weakened the muscles which led to more injuries etc. A vicious circle!

I was hoping you could point me to a few simple exercises to aid me, at the moment I can't even get into an L sit or do a back lever. I don't wanna wear a back strap for the rest of my playin days, or do 100 sit ups a day forever... Any help would be appreciated.

  • @FEWF i have that iron gym pull up bar, and it works great for parkour training exercises

  • You make them look so easy. When I started them I was rocking all over the place to get my knees up. Now I'm doing them strictly finally. You have awesome form!

    smoooooth

  • Damn, I can't even do one of these...

  • thanks for share this knowledge! it helps much!

  • @FEWF

I have one, and it pulled the door frame out of place. We move it to a basement storage room, and made a little V shape out of nails in blocks of wood in the wall to hold it up.

  • i need to find a playground real quick...
