Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Penn State Nittany Lions in 1982. This play was amazingly ruled a catch. The referees must still be hungover from last night's party because this guy's feet were definitely out of bounds when he caught the football. The Huskers ended up going 12-1 in the 1982 season. The three point loss to Penn St. was their only loss of the season. The University of Nebraska football team also repeated as Big Eight champs.

How is that unbelievable? It was obvious where he cought the ball, in or out of bounds.

In 1982, catching the ball while in Row 1 of the stands was a legal catch.

I was at this game in the PSU student section not far from that catch. However, too many people on the sideline for me to have a good view of the catch. I remember better the final Bowman catch in the end zone. The fans all swept down onto the field. Students mobbed College Avenue that night. Exhilirating feeling when the game was over. It also was the first ever game at PSU played under portable light standards brought in by ABC for the late afternoon start EST.
