Ben speaks the truth here......

@fueldragster - it is a dull change

While it may appear that the formula is a success story, it actually isn't. in the second race of the day, they now REVERSE THE GRID to make it "more exciting" The real reason is that the races would be boring and processional. Also, realistically, you can only compete with 6000cc, pushrod V8 engines, which means that you can't race Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Nissan, Porsche or anything that doesn't have GM, Ford, Chrysler or Toyota links.
BORING!!!

@NorthShoreInnovation - I don't know for sure, but do know that one of the overseas cars was sent to SA before these cars appeared.
So either one of these two is a re-bodied 90 with the other one being a locally built equivalent, or the overseas car was used as a base for the construction of two completely new cars.
what happened to the championship after they went to the V8 rules?

@fueldragster - there's a section of the video which explains the change - it starts at 2:40.

@fueldragster - a tough question! Given that, initially, there was the loss of some spectacular cars like the Audi's and the 4-rotor 26B Mazda, I didn't enjoy it. However, the fact that it 'flattened' the class structure and therefore provided more potential competition at the front and the fact that it is still going strong 16 years later, I think it is fair to say - overwhelmingly - yes!
