WBAL's John Patti rides in a Cessna 182 used in Montgomery County to observe busy rush hour intersections from 1500 feet in the sky and relay recommendations for signal timing adjustments in real time. Ed Rodenhizer takes us through the Hanover Traffic Signal Shop where about 1700 of the state's nearly 3000 traffic signals are monitored. Signal timing changes can be made from a lap top computer. Tom Hicks of the Maryland State Highway Administration Office of Traffic and Safety is at the intersection of Arundel Mills Blvd and Ridge Road to show how new technology allows traffic to flow easily at this busy intersection.
