I went out to lunch with my friend and on the way back we decided to stop in at the thrift store. I almost missed this deal but it barely caught my eye on the way out as I was leaving the store, so I went back in and bought it. It's great to have such a historical console in my collection, especially to have found one in such impeccable condition.

Magnavox Odyssey Facts:
The very first home console EVER
Released in 1972
Only 300,000 created
Was copied and the result was PONG
Modeled after the "Brown Box" created by Ralph Baer which is now in the Smithsonian museum.

As far as the debate over the "Tennis for Two" being the first video game console, here is my take on it:

The Tennis for Two has been thrown out of court cases numerous times as the first video game for a few reasons, the main one being that there are no player controlled objects. Without player controlled objects it is not "technically" a video game. Also, Tennis for Two was analog and not digital.

There are many other devices pre-dating even Tennis For Two, but as far as legality, Odyssey has it. Also it's the first to hook up to a TV set.
